Text Effect Quickie: Delicious Chocolate Text
Learn how to quickly design some delectable, rich dark chocolate flavored text! A single look at text like this will make any chocolate lovers mouth water instantly!
What We’re Making
In this Text Effect Quickie, we’ll show you how to create delectable, dark chocolate text as shown in the preview below. Though the effect does take a bit of planning, you can download the Free Chocolate Effect Layer Style.
For this text effect to work best, a bold font should probably be used. I specifically chose to use Myriad.
Step 1 - Setup the Background
This text effect does require some preparation in order to give off the chocolate look. The background must have the appearance of a slab of chocolate, or else the effect will be lost.
Set up a document, and use the Paint Bucket Tool to fill the background with a dark brown such as #140b07.
Create a new layer. With a large, soft brush, and a foreground color of #371b0f (or a lighter brown) paint a dab in the center of your document. Use transform (Ctrl + T) to stretch it the width of your canvas (or further to give a nice, soft highlight).
Step 2 - Setting the Type
Using the Type Tools, set some type in your document. I chose the obvious word, “Chocolate” in All Caps. The text can be any color.
Step 3 - Making The Chocolate Text Effect
Go into your text layers Blending Options (Right Click Layer > Blending Options).
Apply the layer effects shown below, making any modifications as needed.
Drop Shadow
The angle for this shadow may need to be adjusted if the lighting for your specific needs is different.
Bevel
This effect makes our text pop out of the chocolate background. The Angle may need to be changed again to compensate for your lighting scheme.
Color Overlay
Not necessarily needed, but a Black color overlay will make it easy to adjust the brightness of your text later on if ever needed.
Gradient Overlay
This is where we set the color of our type. You’ll need to create a new gradient fading from #1e0f08 to #371b0e. Once again, angle may need to be adjusted.
Not Limited To Text
This effect is of course not limited to text. Try working with custom shapes to create your own chocolate shapes! Keep experimenting!
[Photoshop Tutorial] Make a Glossy Candy Text Effect For Kids
This is a very tutorial for making colourful text, ideal for any kids decoration or web sites. we will be making this..
So, start off my creating a new canvas, 500*400, and fill it with the white color.
Using the "Fertigo" font, type any word you like, and choose the "bold" text.
Go to Layer Styles panel, and load the following settings..
Gradient from dark #5f001f to light bordo - #8e082c
and this is what we got so far..
Now to the more complicated part.
Make a new layer.
Select a brush, hard round, approximately 35px wide, but this fully depends on how thin is your font and how close are your letters.
Select any colour (preferably bright) and simple doodle over the letter.
Using the same layer, chose other bright colours and go over each and every letter like this.
When you have finished, (and this is very important) choose the "screen" mode for this layer
and it would mean your letters look cute like this..
if you don't like the idea of having a shadow coloured as well, i recommend to load a selection on the letters (by clicking on the layer with letters in your layers window) then go to Select >> Inverse and (make sure the doodle layer is selected) -- press Delete.
If you are not bothered with the shadow or not planning to put any background underneath it, just skip this step.
Next, as explained above, click on the letters layer, to load the selection, and then go to Select >> Modify >> Contract.
Contract the selection by 2 pixels. Press Ok.
Then chose Rectangular Marquee tool, and when the "substruct from selection" mode is chosen, cut the lower part of the selection..
Don't de-select yet.
Make a new layer, select the gradient tool from white to trasperant, and make a light gradient from about 10 pixels above the letters to around 5 pixels after the end of the selection.
This is what we got so far..
That's it, your text is ready! If you want to create a strips background like I did in the first image, simply make a copy of this whole canvas and everything that is on it, flatten it and using the horizontal single row marquee tool located somewhere in the middle, press Ctrl + T to "stretch" the line and then press Enter. Grag this bg layer under the gloss, letters and doodle layer...
In this case, you cannot skip the step I posted previously about deleting the ramaisn of the coloured layer. Hope you enjoyed the tutorial and please feel free to download the FREE psd file..
